Email Filtering FAQ

How do I access my quarantined messages?

You can access your quarantined messages through an easy-to-use web interface. In practice you will rarely need to access it, although if you do find an e-mail has been falsely identified, you can have it sent through to your mailbox with a click of the button. Ipera archive all of your quarantined spam messages for at least 14 days.

Can I create blacklists / whitelists?

You can easily create custom blacklists and whitelists through the Sophos Web Interface for single users or for groups. This allows you to specify particular senders, subjects or keywords that are or are not spam.

What about false positives?

The way that Sophos PureMessage determines whether a particular message is spam or not is quite different from other anti-spam solutions. Most solutions identify spam using keywords, blacklists and other suspicious indicators, but this can result in false positives if your genuine messages contain spam-like content - for example you might be legitimately subscribed to a weight loss newsletter, or gambling site.

As well as keywords and blacklists, Sophos PureMessage utilises a real-time worldwide network of spam-attracting mailboxes to determine whether or not a given message is spam. When a message is sent to your domain, it is compared to spam messages already accumulated by Sophos' network. If the message is considered a match, it will be immediately filtered into your quarantine.
